Muchacho & Los Sobrinos, rumba rumbera
Catalan, Barcelona, Carrer de la Cera and Hostafrancs gypsies. Childhood friends, family and siblings. Their rumba was developed from gypsy celebrations, weddings, conventions and concerts. They are the legacy of Peret, the king of the rumba, and also Pescaílla, Chipén and Estrellas de Gràcia, to name a few. Their vision is to avoid mixing rumba with other genres; they present a pure and authentic Catalan rumba, with the “ventilador” as the cornerstone of their compositions. They avoid traditional concerts; instead they put on juergas (celebrations) with their own songs and versions of Catalan rumba classics which may even feature a dancer or two.
The music they play in the intimate gypsy community in Barcelona is brought to the stage with uninhibited style and is, at times, improvised.
It is an authentic way to experience their juergas (celebrations) and festivals.
